Game Mode on the Scope Remote is optimized for plug-and-play use on iPad and iPhone, so it works seamlessly without extra configuration.

Below are the default Scope Remote settings, which can be used immediately out of the box with Anki, no additional setup required.

How to customize your Scope Remote on iPadOS & iOS

Since Anki on iOS and iPadOS does not support add-ons, the Scope Remote is configured using Apple’s Switch Control accessibility feature. This allows remote buttons to tap specific areas of the screen.

Part 1: Prepare Your Anki App

Before mapping your remote, make sure the necessary buttons are visible in Anki. The remote works by tapping fixed screen locations.

A. Enable Answer Buttons

  1. Open the Anki app
  2. Tap the Settings (Preferences) icon (top right)
  3. Tap Review
  4. Under Bottom Bar, turn ON:
    • Show Bottom Bar
    • Answer Buttons (under Answer Side)

These are required to map Again, Hard, Good, and Easy.

B. Enable and Customize the Top Bar

  1. Go back to Review
  2. Tap Top Bar
  3. Turn ON Show Top Bar

Part 4: Create an Anki Recipe

Recipes allow each remote button to perform specific actions inside Anki.

  1. Go back to the main Switch Control page
  2. Tap Recipes
  3. Tap Create New Recipe
  4. Name it Anki
  5. Under Launch Recipe, select Anki

Part 5: Map Remote Buttons to Answer Controls

Open Anki and begin reviewing cards while completing the steps below so you can visualize the locations of the buttons on your screen.

A. How to Assign Each Button:

  1. Inside your Anki recipe, tap Assign a Switch
  2. Tap Choose a Switch
  3. Select your remote button (Ex. Start)

4. Tap Custom Gesture

5. Tap Hide Controls

6. Tap the matching button location inside Anki

7. Save the gesture

Repeat this process for all the bottom bar and top bar buttons, until all the buttons on your Scope Remote have been programmed.

B. Assign Joystick Left & Right Toggles (Swipe Actions)

Assign Joystick for Swipe Left

  1. Inside your Anki recipe, tap Assign a Switch
  2. Tap Choose a Switch
  3. Move the joystick to the direction you want to program
  4. Select:
    • Right to Left Swipe

Assign Joystick for Swipe Right

  1. Tap Assign a Switch
  2. Tap Choose a Switch
  3. Move the joystick to the opposite direction
  4. Select:
    • Left to Right Swipe

This will perform the action you assigned to Swipe Right inside Anki.

Part 6: Using Your Scope Remote

Whenever you want to use your Scope Remote, activate Switch Control by pressing the power button 3 times.

When you are finished studying, press the power button 3 times again to turn Switch Control off and return your device to normal use.

NOTE:

Scope Remote is designed to auto-reconnect to the last device it was paired with, which is great for speed, but it can cling to an old device.

To switch devices, open the Bluetooth settings on the previously connected device and select “Forget” or “Remove This Device.” This allows the Scope Remote to enter pairing mode again.

This will not delete any switch control settings you’ve already configured. Your settings will remain saved and will be available the next time you pair the Scope Remote with your iPad.
