Bluetooth Pairing

1.  Enter Pairing Mode:

  • Press and hold the START button until the blue light flashes twice, then release it.
  • If the light flashes once per second, the remote is in Pairing Mode.
  • If it doesn't, the remote may have been turned off accidentally

2.  Connect to your device:

Once in Pairing Mode, you will see "Scope Remote" on your Bluetooth list.

To check if your Scope Remote is on or off, just press the START button for 1 second. If the light flashes blue, then your Scope Remote is on.

Connecting to Another Device

To prevent your Scope Remote from disconnecting during sessions, we've implemented protection for the Bluetooth connection.

Switching Devices:

1. Go to Bluetooth settings on your current device

2. Select "Forget This Device" or right-click the Scope Remote and choose "Remove"

3. The remote will automatically enter pairing mode (indicated by flashing blue lights)

4. You can now sync it with your new device

Pro Tip for Multiple Devices:

If you frequently switch between multiple devices, it's recommended to simply disconnect the remote from Bluetooth at the end of a session. This way, you can quickly reconnect by just turning it on when needed.

Remote Modes

Title

Pre-programmed Modes

The Scope Anki Remote comes with two pre-programmed modes. Let's examine how to access the modes and how they differ from one another.

How to Switch Between Modes

The side of the Scope Remote has the modes labeled.

  • If the mode bar is upwards, then it is in the GAME mode.
  • If the mode bar is downwards, then it is in the KEY mode.

Key Mode

Designed to provide all the essential functions you need to start solving decks in Anki.

Game Mode

Specifically designed for one-by-one and image occlusion cards. Navigate through your cards without interrupting your flow.

In both modes, the Space-bar is the button in the middle since it is the most used button in Anki (required to 'reveal card' and choose 'good' to move to the next card). We decided to keep it closest to your thumb so your time spent per card is as low as possible.

Settings for Ipad Users

The 'Game Mode' on the Scope remote was specifically developed to offer preset configurations optimized for iPad users. Conversely, the 'Key Mode' is intended to provide a platform for extensive customization, primarily for laptop users.

Unfortunately, the Anki Remote requires an add-on for customization, and devices like iPads that don't support add-ons won't have custom key mappings available. The customization feature that would allow you to map the undo function to a button is only available when using the remote with computers that can run the add-on.

You can still use all the core features of the remote on your iPad, but the button mapping will be limited to the default configuration.

Customization

How to Customize

Add-on Code: 2052746015

1. Download the Anki Remote add-on

Get it from AnkiWeb or add the following code under your Anki Add-ons: 1544884645

2. Customize your buttons

Click on any dropdown menu and change any button to whatever function you want.

3. Save your settings

Once you customize a mode in the add-on, you must save it.

Important Notice!

If you switch modes on the remote, you must switch the mode on the remote first, head over to the add-on and switch the mode in the add-on as well and press save. This way, the add-on recognizes which mode the remote is on and is able to function according to your customizations.

iPadOS/iOS

Game Mode on the Scope Remote is optimized for plug-and-play use on iPad and iPhone, so it works seamlessly without extra configuration.

Below are the default Scope Remote settings, which can be used immediately out of the box with Anki, no additional setup required

Since Anki on iOS and iPadOS does not support add-ons, the Scope Remote can be configured using Apple’s Switch Control accessibility feature. This allows remote buttons to tap specific areas of the screen.

Please visit our customization guide for iPad for step-by-step instructions on how to do that.

Common Issues

"The B button is not responding"

The 'B' button is programmed to different outputs depending on the remote’s mode.

By default, the B button functions as 'Again' in Key mode and as 'Next Cloze' in Game mode. If you are getting an unexpected output, ensure your Scope Remote is set to the right mode.

If you have customized your remote through our add-on, make sure the mode on the remote corresponds to the one you have selected on the add-on.
Additionally, please remember to press ‘Save’ on the add-on after you switch modes.

"I am facing Bluetooth connectivity issues."

We know connection hiccups are frustrating. Scope Remote is designed to auto-reconnect to the last device it was paired with, which is great for speed, but it can cling to an old device. Here’s the fastest way to get back on track.

1) Clear old connections

  • On any previously paired device, go to Bluetooth → Scope Remote → Forget/Remove This Device.
This prevents the remote from auto-connecting elsewhere.

2) Let it auto-connect to your current device

  • After clearing old devices, your Scope Remote should automatically connect to the device you want to use now.

3) If it still shows “Not connected” on your current device

  1. On your current device, click Forget/Remove This Device for Scope Remote.
  2. Put the remote in pairing mode: hold the Start button until the blue LED flashes.
  3. Re-pair from Bluetooth by selecting Scope Remote.

4) Still stuck?

  • Toggle Bluetooth off and back on.
  • Reset your remote (Instructions below).
  • Restart your computer/phone (surprisingly effective).
  • Make sure no previously paired device nearby has Bluetooth turned on.

5) Contact us (we reply fast)

Email support@scopeshop.ae with:

  • Whether your Scope Remote was connected successfully to this exact device in the past
  • LED status (color; solid vs. flashing)
  • Past pairing (connected to other devices before?)
  • Current Bluetooth status (Connected / Not connected / error text)

"The Space/Good button does not answer the card."

It’s possible your spacebar isn’t set to answer “Good” while reviewing cards. Here’s how to check:

1.  Navigate to Preferences on Anki

  • Windows: Click Tools (drop-down menu in the upper left corner)-> Preferences.
  • macOS: Press ⌘ Cmd + P to open Preferences directly.

2. Under Review, make sure the option “Spacebar also answers card” is ticked.

"Input directly from the keyboard is not working on ANKI since I got the remote."

On the add-on customization screen, there is a small toggle in the bottom-right corner.

Switching this to Keyboard Mode will allow your keyboard to function normally.  When you’d like to review using your Scope Remote, you can switch the toggle back to Remote Mode.

This separation helps ensure that both input devices do not conflict with one another during reviews.

"Buttons are not working as expected"

If your remote isn’t responding or some buttons don’t work, the issue may be due to input or accessibility settings.

  • Make sure your keyboard language is set to English:

For macOS:

1. Open System Settings

2. Go to Keyboard → Text Input → Input Sources → Edit

3. Click the “+” icon at the bottom left

Add English (ABC)

Once it’s set to English (ABC), try using the remote again — it should now work properly.

You can switch between languages anytime using Control + Space

For Windows:

1. Open Settings

2. Go to Time & Language → Language & region

3. Under Preferred languages, click Add a language

4. Search for and add English (United States) – US Keyboard

5. Once added, click the three dots next to it → Language options → make sure the US QWERTY layout is installed

Now try using the remote again — it should work properly.

You can switch between languages anytime using Alt + Shift or Windows + Spacebar.

  • Some buttons don’t respond on iPad/iPhone

If some buttons on (like “Reveal Hint”) don’t respond on iPad/iPhone, you might have Full Keyboard Access turned on.

To fix this:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Accessibility → Keyboard → Full Keyboard Access
  3. Toggle Full Keyboard Access off
  4. Then try using your remote again — it should work as expected.

  • “Error” Message After Adding the Add-on

If you get an error after installing or updating the Scope add-on, your Anki version might just be outdated.
Please update Anki to the latest version from the official website, then restart Anki and try again.

  • "Buttons aren’t doing what I assigned them to do in the Scope Remote add-on"

Sometimes, other Anki add-ons can conflict with shortcut settings and cause buttons to behave differently than expected. To check if this is the issue, try temporarily disabling your other add-ons, then test the Scope Remote buttons again.

If the buttons work correctly after disabling other add-ons, it is likely that one of those add-ons is the source of the conflict.

If the issue persists, please contact Scope Support at support@scopeshop.ae

Battery Percentage Issue

"My computer always indicates that the scope remote is out of charge whenever I connect it."

The initial batch of remotes was manufactured without a module that reports its battery percentage to the connected computer. As a result, your computer cannot accurately read the battery status. We recommend using the light signals to determine the battery level instead.

Remote Acting Strange?

If your Scope Remote is behaving unexpectedly, you may need to reset it.

1. Insert a pin or needle into the hole and press the button for 10 seconds.

2. Turn your remote off and back on again

3. Try to connect to your computer again.
